And so on and so on...

So the saga continues.... I really would like to get down and dirty with some in depth reviews of the various Brazilian methods products that are currently available. By now I have come into contact with enough clients and customers who have applied or experienced most of them.
If you have any first hand experience or reviews, please let me know and I will add it to the Blog. My whole intention is to have this one blog where the "common man (woman" can give their opinion on a new and growing concept.
Here is a partial list of the various formulas...
The one that gets the most press right now is the Marcia Teixeira Brazilian Keratin Treatment. Other common products are Rejuvenol, Goleshlee, Qod and Global. A very new line that has been popular in other countries is IZAADI. They call it the BKERATIN Brazilian Formula. That one is still so new that I don't have too many experienced reviews yet...
Ok - I am getting the info together, and will need your help to produce a definitive overview...

Cool, Babycakes? Out for now, Rina

Bad Straightening Song

Make it straight, make it straight,
make it straight, before it's too late.
Do the Brazilian, it will be great,
it will be fun to celebrate.

I don't know about that song...
I heard someone sing it but it's not very good!

Not much today...

Well it's November 12th and there is not to much to say.
I would like to write something about different types of products available on the market right now. but, alas, that I will have to wait for that in the future... Goodbye for now... rina

Blog Entry dated 11/4/2007 1:57 AM

1st of I have to really apologize for not having posted in a while but there's been a lot of things happening, a lot of people have been trying some different techniques and I've heard about a lot of improvement that changes to the whole world of B Keratin …

Just recently, I had several friends that have tried many different things. And they all have tried things in the past as well. The one constants thing though has been the fact that they were all able to reduce the volume of their hair. Now when you look at, one thing that seems important is the type of hair that the person has. I know someone who had their hair straightened and it started out somewhat wavy - just a typical white red hair. Then there was another one who was sort of partially black partially white with nice kinky hair. She was able to get a good result. Now the last person was a Mexican-American. He had very kinky hair as well and it was extremely damaged. So I think it is interesting to see how damaged or improved it was afterwards.

When it comes to B Keratin, they say that virgin hair actually does not work as good, of course that is counterintuitive because how would any kind of hair process that is beneficial to you work less well on hair that is in good condition. How can something good be made better by something that was bad to start with in the first the place? Here are a couple of reasons that this might be true and none of them actually makes more sense;

When it comes to damaged hair or pretreated hair and what its effects are, you can usually break it down into 2 categories. One category is previously dyed hair that had color applied. The other is any kind of treated hair that has some significant damage. Now, many people have said that the treatment works better on damaged hair but it seems to work differently depending on the condition of the hair on your head!

So what is the bottom line? The bottom line is that yes and no when it comes to pre treated hair, there's often a grain of truth  in something's like this,  and then it starts to sound much like the hoopla that used to surround thermal reconditioning or other types of new coloring systems like Balyage and other systems like that.

Many rumors, and sometimes a bit of truth, are behind the whole damage issue and is something that really needs to be addressed. I will try and quickly explain what this has to do with the Brazilian, straightening, and technique. It is that the damage level of hair often can predict whether the damage afterwards is improved or not. Now you probably heard many things about how damaged hair might actually work better if you are going to do any Keratin based straightening. That may or may not be true and there are many reasons that that might be so

I must admit that certainly, didn't sound true to me the first time I heard it, but if I try to explain it, I have try explaining in a way that it was explained to me by a hair professional and good styling I know. Apparently, it has something to do with the hair or the outside of the hair being broken like it strips the outside layer. So that chemicals in the treatment can sort of enter the hair than they would otherwise. Doing it on virgin or healthy hair, it is more difficult because you have to strip at a house before you repaint it. If you just cover up top of the old paint, it is not as good as stripping at down to the wood first and then applying the primer, and then applying the fresh paint over that. But, but I do not know, that might have just been a painter who explained it to me that way, but it makes sense if you really think about it. One HUGE other element that I will be getting into a lot is that ever present seven letter word; Keratin. Although I am certainly no expert, I am now absolutely convinced that all of these processes must absolutely be Keratin based.

a couple interesting pix from the "BrazilianKeratin" blog

When I set up this Blog, I tried using the name braziliankeratin. However, it was already taken. So, I just used BrazilianKeratinTreatment which is obviously just as good anyways, if not better. I was updating this blog today when I accidentally punched in the url of the braziliankeratin site: http://braziliankeratin.blogspot.com/. I was confused for a minute, cuz I thought someone had posted some pictures on this blog. But, it looks like the lady who did the site back in March simply set it up to show off a couple picture of the Brazilian Thermal she had just received. To make a long story short, it doesn't look half bad! It certainly has the that razor sharp edge and special shimmer found in real Brazilian Blowouts. I have the feeling though, that it was perhaps a ":high formaldehyde" home brew application. You might have heard that these custom mixes are usually stirred up at home by Brazilian ex-pats, with wildly varying results. On the flip side, salons get a lot of crap because they try and be a little conscientious about the formula they use....

but I digress... Hopefully its OK with the "model", as you can see I have included the pictures from the braziliankeratin blogspot site (don't forget! my site, that you are reading now, is braziliankeratinTREATMENT . blogspot . com).

Wow - look what I found!

And, No, its not a traditional Brazilian straightening either. Watch these first, and then I'll tell you what it is!

First watch this:

And now watch this:

And last but not least, watch this:

Now, many of you may be familiar with Thermal Reconditioning, Japanese Straightening, or even the Progressive Brazilian. You are probably wondering, "what the heck was that?.. it looks like some kind of process, because it used a neutralizer, but it was so quick, so it wasn't a traditional thermal, hmmmmm"...

Curious?

I'll let you know what it was in my next post...

Controversy!?

Ok - so now for the big pink elephant in the room ... and that is the controversy over the safety of Brazilian keratin treatments. I hate to write about this in one of my first posts, but I feel that I at least nee4d to mention it, and will definitely have to be dealt with in detail at some future date.
For the record, I tend to be a bit of skeptic when it comes to sensationalistic "scare" pieces. I'm talking about the kind of article you find in junk woman's magazines like Allure or Glamour. Right after the "50 ways to please your Lover using Household Appliances" comes the article on "I Went to The Salon, and Woke Up in the Hospital!".
Overall I would say that I am sick of adults who expect the government to always protect them from their own lack of research. I mean, lets face it, at a salon you put chemicals in your hair, and almost none of them are something you would want to drink! So you should be careful etc, blah blah. Is inhaling nail polish any less dangerous? How about the fact that driving your car to the salon has an infinitely higher probability of killing you than any hair treatment does...
I can see right now the lady sitting in the salon getting a BKT, demanding that fans be turned on a full blast, and gas masks worn - only to have her liver swell as she downs her 5th glass of wine of the day, laced with a known poison; alcohol.
grow up people.
I am dying to hear your comments...
